Cosy Chair Counselling Logo Widnes Therapy Room
Frequently Asked Questions

Is there actually a cosy chair?

Absolutely, there is! It's important that you feel comfortable during sessions, so however you want to arrive, in your favourite baggy jumper or your gym wear, is fine by me. This is not a formal space; I bring myself as I am, and I ask that you do the same. The chair is yours, but equally, if you need to move around or want to sit on the floor, it's no problem at all.

Where are you based?

Sessions are held in either Widnes or Runcorn, Cheshire—but I can also offer online counselling sessions.

How much are sessions?

£50 per session – payable before each session via bank transfer or cash on arrival.

Discounts are offered for block bookings – please ask for further details.

I do offer a small number of concessionary counselling sessions for students, trainee counsellors or those on low incomes. Please reach out to discuss this further.

How long are sessions, and how often would I see you?

Sessions are 50 minutes long, and I recommend meeting weekly to begin. Moving forward, sessions can move to fortnightly or monthly; we can work around your needs and budget.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is to discuss in more depth what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to get out of sessions (but don’t worry if you don’t know that just yet, we can work it out together).

I don’t know what I want to talk about exactly, is that ok?

That is totally fine. Acknowledging you want things to change is a positive start, and that’s where I come in. We can work it out together.

What if I cry and can’t speak?

There are no expectations during sessions; all emotions are welcome. You may feel like crying, you may feel like laughing—there is no judgement from me. I’m here to provide a safe space for you to feel comfortable enough to explore those emotions.

Is this a confidential service?

This is a confidential space where you will be supported and respected. What we discuss is between us.

*There are a few exceptions to confidentiality, for example, where someone is at serious risk of harm. We will discuss this in more depth during our 1st session.

Can I stop anytime I want? / Cancellation policy.

I kindly ask for 48 hours’ notice for cancellation of a planned session. I appreciate that genuine last-minute emergencies can occur; I just ask for as much notice as you can give.

You do not need to commit to a set number of sessions. There is no pressure at all, and if you decide to stop therapy, we can discuss how to safely end our work together to maintain the progress you made.

Are you qualified?

I have a FdSc Counselling with distinction (3 years) and have completed a BSc (Hons) in Counselling (First Class)- specialising in Relationships and Children/Young People (1 year). Alongside my professional training, I live with my own long-term chronic illness, so I have a deep firsthand understanding of what it's truely like to navigate the daily physical & emotional challenges of a body that doesn't always cooperate. Additionally, I also have lived experience of supporting loved ones with mental health challenges, autism and FND.

What if I am in crisis now?

I am not a crisis service. If you need immediate support, you can attend A&E or contact a service below:
